Children of the Sun

The children of the sun were born into the kibbutzim of the 1930s, 1940s and 1950s, and they were intended to be everything they parents dreamed of. They grew into the suit of the new human – a healthy human in both body and spirit, diligent and moral, ready for a life of cooperation and labor. They were born in a group, grew up in a group, matured in a group, they had fights and disputes and love affairs and they left a group and died in a group. They did not choose to be part of their parents' fascinating revolution; they were born into it and grew up in it. They lived in an upside down world in which the traditional family was replaced by the collective one and the will of the individual was subordinate to the good of the group. A world full of hope, an unusual and wonderful world, until today they carry its mistakes and wounds and long for it.

Today the "children of the sun" are no longer children. The oldest of them are septuagenarians and the young ones are nearing their fifties. Today the charged world of terms they grew up on seems so far away and strange. Sometimes is seems as if it can be told as a mysterious legend.

"The Children of the Sun" is a very personal story of growing up, maturing and growing old on the kibbutz. Unlike their revolutionary parents or deconstructing children, those children of the revolution couldn't help but to try and realize their parents' dream.

Today, from the distance of the years, a lot of the passion has subsided, but even nostalgia cannot completely hide the pain, anger and old accounts. Being after the kibbutz's demise but only at the start of the bereavement process, this is the time to confront the pictures of the past with the current memories.
