Blush (Barash)

Naama Barash is 17. Her hobbies include alcohol, drugs, and hanging out with two friends who enjoy the same things. Home, for Naama, is a place of constant stress and tension: her parents are constantly fighting; her rebellious older sister is at odds with their father; her mother and younger brother are miserable all the time.

One day, a new girl arrives at school. Barash falls deeply in love with her—her first time having feelings for another girl. That intensity of experience confuses Barash, but she’s swept off her feet. Her life has new meaning.

At the same time, Naama’s mother realizes that her older daughter, Liora, a soldier in the IDF, has gone missing. They eventually discover that she escaped to an Arab city to live with a new love of her own, a young Arab man.

Between her falling in love and the familial drama of the missing sister, Barash tells a coming of age story of an Israeli teenager in search of her personal identity.
